Believing in Trinidad

My 9th trip to Trinidad is now complete. It was a wonderful trip. Investing in a country, in a church and in a group of people for the cause of Christ is a super rewarding thing to do. I’m blessed to see a church grow from a pastor and his family members to a community of people who desire to know God and who are maturing in their walk every year. Grace Church of Cunupia is just a special place. I see our role in Trinidad as what Paul’s role often was to various churches…as encouragers…cheering on believers who desire to change their country for God.

Ukraine Mission Trip 2011

Laura Johnson, Elementary Small Group Coordinator at Hope, shares her photos, a heart felt testimony of her most recent mission trip to Ukraine and how God called her into the missions field 7 years ago…

In 2004, I was 19 and really unaware of why I was going on my first mission trip. There was a part of me that believed what Matthew 28:19-20 says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…”, but in my young walk with the Lord, there was also a big part of me that just wanted to leave the US to see what else God had created. In the years following, God used my trips to wreck my heart for the nations. He has given me a indescribable love for Trinidad and Ukraine but has also opened my eyes to the global God I serve.

The more I travel abroad, the more I notice how different yet similar our world is. Culturally, some things are like night and day but more than not, I see an obvious need for a Savior wherever I go. God has allowed me to see and experience so much. This is just a simple attempt to share some of my thoughts through pictures of the people that I love in Ukraine.

Now that this trip has passed, I look forward to our 2011 Orphan Hosting Program sponsored by Hope Community Church. We intend to bring 20 orphans from Ukraine to the Triangle to share Jesus with them and find each of them a family. Last year 15 out of 16 kids found families this way and we’re praying for God to move just as mightily this year! To learn more visit redlineunited.org.

Global Hope India

The Global Hope India team that returned from India on March 12 had both a sense of accomplishment and humility. India is one of the neediest countries in the world. Our team from Hope did its part to make a difference in each village they visited.

The mission trip kicked off in Hyderabad where the team visited the orphanage to meet the children, many for the first time. They then boarded a 10-hour train to Jangareddygudem to meet over 200 native missionaries. There, a pastor’s conference was held along with a gospel message, live worship in a local church, a baptism outreach as well as the team handing out over 1,700 Telugu Bibles to the native Indians. Men and women gave out more Bibles and care packages that included personal and hygiene products that were much needed by all to a total of 3 villages.

After visiting the rural villages, the team headed back to Hyderabad and met a key contact from Agape International, Lynne Voggu and her husband, who was a doctor, cared for one of the team members who got sick on the trip. Lynne manages 6 orphanages in the area with ties to HIV. This was a delight to the Global Hope team as they build contacts in the area to serve the greater good. The team also spent time at a children’s home that houses over 66 kids. Team India had a service at a local leper colony and also visited the area in which sustainable agriculture had been planted to help the community gain self-sufficiency.

In October, $12k was raised to help build a girls dorm. By March 2011, an additional $14k was raised to start building the 2nd/3rd floor of the dorm where the girls would sleep. Finally, Team India did an abundant amount of research for the upcoming student ministries trip. The June trip includes 32 high school students that will visit India to pick up where Hope left off June 21-29, 2011.
